CHRYSLER was the last of the Big Three to have a stab at the Australian family car market, launching the Valiant in 1962 to take on Holden's EK and Ford's XL. The VC Valiant was introduced in March 1966 and although it was basically the same car as it`s predecessor the AP6 underneath, the new body with sharp, squared-off styling was clearly influenced by Chrysler in America.. (Slant 6 only) and Regal. The V8 optioned cars (273 V8) were named 'Valiant V8/Safari V8' and not Regal V8/Regal Safari V8.

The Plymouth Valiant (first appearing in 1959 as simply the Valiant) is an automobile which was marketed by the Plymouth division of the Chrysler Corporation in the United States from the model years of 1960 through 1976. It was created to give the company an entry in the compact car market emerging in the late 1950s. The Valiant was also built and marketed, without the Plymouth brand.

The Valiant V8 was a quick car in its day, recording a 0-60 mph time of just 10.5 seconds and the standing quarter mile in 17.5 seconds (as tested by Wheels magazine in May 1967). The VC proved a milestone car in Chrysler Australia's history, the 65,634 strong production run a significant increase over the previous AP6 but surviving examples.
